WINNESHIEK COUNTY VETERANS
Assist Honorably Discharged Veterans in applying for Federal Benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. We do not work for the Veterans Administration but work with the Federal and Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs to inform veterans of various benefits which they are eligible. Veterans need to be a Winneshiek County resident. Will assist Veterans, spouses & dependents, who are eligible. Also assist Winneshiek County Veterans with rent, utilities, medical and prescription medications who are eligible. Our office assists with:
- Application for VA Health Care Benefits
- Compensation for Service connected disability
- Pension for Non-Service connected disability
- Government headstone or marker
Winneshiek County provides bronze flag holders to honor our deceased Military Veterans (who are buried in Winneshiek County) & their service to country, who are eligible. Will need to see a certified DD214 (discharge form).

Our office has a Counselor (a combat wounded Vietnam Veteran) who assists Veterans that are dealing with Combat Trauma, MST, other concerns regarding the military, work & home life. NEW Veteran Designation on Driver's License or Non-Operator ID
Veterans may have "veteran" designation added to license or ID. This can be done at renewal time or anytime by paying the replacement fee of $10 (replacement fee effective July 1, 2013). This designation does not entitle veterans to VA Benefits. An honorably discharged veteran must present a copy of their DD214 or applicable discharge document to a County Veterans Affairs Office. Forms can be picked up at a County Veterans Affairs Office, Treasurers Office or online at https://va.iowa.gov
